Biggest Reasons Why Americans Are Overweight!

Americans are said to be the most over weight, but many have a hard time figuring out why.  Why is it that many Americans are starting to be overweight and in worse health than the previous generation?  I think I have the answer.

Reason 1

Exercise….
Many Americans nowadays aren’t getting enough exercise.  That’s right, something as simple as exercise can have a big impact on our daily lives.  In the movie WALL-E, the people roamed around on hover chairs.  Who needs a wheel chair right?  Especially when the machine will do all the work for you.

Is that the kind of life style we want?  To be subjects who are limited in our mobility based on some machine?  Right now many kids are experiencing this because of Parents not letting their kids play in the park.  Instead, they’ll let them play Video Games all day and do nothing.

Now, before you go bashing Video games and start blaming the games themselves, maybe you should take a closer look a parenting.  I play Video Games myself, but that doesnt’ mean that Nerds can’t be fit.  I in fact have started a Cardio Routine, which will eventually turn into running, which in turn will turn into a Marathon.

I have goals, kids nowadays, don’t.  That’s partly because parents let their kids spend too much time playing Video Games as apposed to….well, playing.

Reason 2

Over Indulging…..
Many restaurants have started (in the last decade)  increasing portion sizes.  Now, they even go as far as encourage you to get a large or (in some cases) super-size.  In this case, bigger isn’t always better.  Tell me something.

Do you feel better now that you’re bigger?  Again, bigger isn’t always better.  My parents often times make two meals out of one meal when they go out to eat.  Why?  Many of these meals are filled with Calories.  Many of them over 1,000 calories.  That’s half a days Calories for most.

Still think Bigger is Better?

Reason 3

Quality of Food
Our food quality has reduced in the last 10-20 years drastically.  Farmers are basically killing the land that they farm one with all the chemicals that they spray on plants.  Therefore, we’re forced to look for alternatives: plants that are bug resistant, plants that yield more, and even plants that grow better in certain climates.

When you start tampering with plants: spraying chemicals, changing DNA strands, making them more volatile, something has to give.  So, where do we suffer?  In Nutritional Value.  I can’t stress this enough….

Life is too precious to tamper with.  By tampering with those plants, they’re tampering with our health.  Empty calories adds to our over all weight.  Really.  What else is our body going to use useless calories for?

So, my question for you today is, did this inspire you?  If so, what are your plans for taking action?

On Hold

Well, this bites.  Another piece of my computer is falling apart.  Yep, my DVD Burner is going bad.  What’s the deal?

Some of you may remember my first piece of software to test and review was supposed to be Encyclopedia Britannica.  Yep, that failed.  I took back the software to Staples, only to get a replacement that had the same issue.  I tried installing another game, Sim City 4, which also happened to be a failed attempt.

So, I tried a few things.  Took apart the DVD Burner and cleaned the lens.  After putting it back together, no success.  Grrr.  It was a pain to take apart to begin with.

Updating the firmware was a big failure too.  I had to go through a site that wasn’t the official site of LiteOn, which is the DVD Burner manufacturer.  Maybe that had something to do with it, but hey, was worth a try.  Doesn’t do LiteOn any good to not be able to update the firmware.

The last thing I did was delete the register keys, uninstall the driver, and reboot.  Nope, notta.  Yet another failure.  At this point the frustration is building.  So, I tried one last thing.

Instead of a CD-Rom game that I had, I tried one of the DVD-Rom games I had.  Spore was the choice of game.  Put it in the drive……  Success.  The DVD was recognized and I was able to install the game.  My first review, just might be of Spore.

After reading a few forum post, from tech forums, I’ve come to the conclusion that my DVD Burner is on its last leg.  Going to have to get a new one, but I’m not sure when that will be.

I now have two options.  Continue with Spore and check out some free games online.  Yes, free fits the Budget category.  Or put the whole budget games and software route on hold.  I know though that’s not what you want, so I’ll be checking out games online that I can download and what not.  Stay tuned.

Encyclopedia Britannica – Family Encyclopedia – Budget Games & Software

I promised a review of Encyclopedia Britannica, the Family edition.

It cost me a mere $10, but I have to say, that I’m highly disappointed.  First off, the disc wouldn’t even work in the DVD Burner I have.  I should have at least read the disc, which would have been able to install it.

All in all, I think it would have been a pleasant experience, if I was able to install it.  It says, “WIN/MAC CD Rom Software.  Included on the disc are 25,000+ articles, 2,700 images/maps/videos, and a Merriam Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary & Thesaurus.

And yes, it works with Windows 7 witch is what I’m using.  I just checked the back of the box to make sure.  Which I’m almost certain I did so at the purchase of the software.

Despite the fact this journey was slightly disappointing, I’ll continue to purchase and review budget games & software.  Provided that they actually work.  Up next?  Sim City 4 and I know it works, because I bought it back when it was still $20, though you can now get it for $10.  Yet, the $20 includes an expansion pack.

Keep an eye out for the next review.  Is there a software or game you’d like me to review?  Make a suggestion below, as long as it’s under $20.

If you’re a software or game designer and would like me to review a game/software, please leave a comment or send me an email to my public email on my profile.

Budget Games and Software

I will be reviewing some Budget Games and Software in the coming weeks.  Most people are looking fun and good software on a budget.  What is my budget?  I’m limiting my purchases to $20.  You can expect a review on a budget product most Fridays.  Some weeks may be skipped, do to various factors.

Don’t judge a book by it’s cover they say, but the cover is the selling point.  Instead, I’m going to say, “You shouldn’t judge a game/software by it’s price.”  Just because it’s budget, doesn’t mean it’s not a good game/software.  For example, you can now get Sim City 4 for $10.  That is one product I will review.

The product I will be reviewing up in the coming week is, Encyclopedia Britannica.  This information filled product is a bit more accurate than Wikipedia and I’ll be giving it a whirl over the next week.  When opinion matters, I’ll be giving you my two cents on Friday.  Stay tuned for that.

If you’d like to send me a free copy of your software to review, then I’d be happy to oblige.  The software must be a reason price and budget friendly.
