Wacky Math of Social Media

What’s with the wacky math of Social Media nowadays?  What do I mean by wacky?  Well, according to Social Media sites, 1+1=30,000.  Basically, what it boils down to is one person makes a post, then shares it, then another person shares it, then two more, until it balloons.  Here’s an excerpt from a great article on this…

“Social media is a funny thing. The math within social media marketing works as if it is out in the cosmos, where time and space are bent. What am I talking about? Well, some of the normal math found in business, either it just isn’t applicable in social media or the normal way we think about calculating it offline is very different to how it actually works within the social graph.

Years ago we heard that if you had an unhappy customer they would tell 10 people and how damaging that would be to your company. They said if you created a happy customer, they would at least tell 1 to 2 people. Boy have those days disappeared!”

A Fungus More Expensive Than Gold?

N-Acetylneuraminic acid is 50 times more expensive than Gold according to some.  It’s used in the production of antiviral drugs.  However, it can be found/synthesized from the Shells of Sea Creatures.  Here is an excerpt from the article…

“Usually, mould fungi are nothing to cheer about – but now they can be used as “chemical factories”. Scientists at the Vienna University of Technology have succeeded in introducing bacterial genes into the fungus Trichoderma, so that the fungus can now produce important chemicals for the pharmaceutical industry. The raw material used by the fungus is abundant – it is chitin, which makes up the shells of crustaceans.

Fifty Times More Expensive than Gold

Viral Infections are usually treated with antiviral drugs, which are often derived from N-Acetylneuraminic acid (or NANA, for short). NANA, which can be obtained form natural sources or synthesized, is fifty times more valuable than gold – it is sold for around 2000 Euros per gram. A research team at Vienna UT, led by biotechnologist Astrid Mach-Aigner, has now found a new, eco-friendly way to produce NANA. The vast knowledge about the genetics of the fungus Trichoderma accumulated at Vienna UT over the years was crucial for the project. ”

Has Nature Found A Way To Dispose of Aquatic Trash?

Many of you know of the massive amounts of trash that have somehow built up over the years of humanities wasteful mindlessness.  Some scientist have discovered bacteria living and eating the plastic.  Here is an excerpt from the article…

“Nature may have found a way to dispose of the huge amounts of plastic garbage, which has been increasingly accumulating in the oceans. A small bacteria feeding on it has been discovered. This may be a boon or a bane for the aquatic environment.”

Millions Of Internet Users May Be Without Internet

In the news, millions of people world wide had their computers infected by a DNS changing virus that effectively changed the website the viewer was trying to go to, into a malicious site.  The people who created the virus were arrested by the FBI, but that doesn’t change the fact that many people who were infected by it, have yet to do anything about it.  Here is a excerpt from the article:

“Millions of computer users across the world could be blocked off from the Internet as early as March 8 if the FBI follows through with plans to yank a series of servers originally installed to combat corruption.

Last year, authorities in Estonia apprehended six men believed responsible for creating a malicious computer script called the DNSChanger Trojan. Once set loose on the Web, the worm corrupted computers in upwards of 100 countries, including an estimated 500,000 in America alone. The US Federal Bureau of Investigation later stepped up by replacing the rogue Trojan with servers of their own in an attempt to remediate the damage, but the fix was only temporary. Now the FBI is expected to end use of those replacement servers as early as next month and, at that point, the Internet for millions could essentially be over.”

Most Common Problems Guys Have In Relationships

Most people look at single men and don’t think that they have the slightest clue about Relationships.  Truth is, you don’t have to be in a relationship(s) to know a thing or to about them.  There is this little thing I like to call Observation.

A single guy who has never had a single date, might know more about relationships than a guy who’s been on hundreds of dates.  See the big picture here?  The single guy can learn from every one of the dating guy’s mistakes, that is if he follows the Golden Rules of Learning.

Listen, Absorb, and Apply.  Those are the three Golden Rules of Anything really.

Let’s take dating for example; the single biggest problem I’ve seen with dating, is that Guys don’t (Listen.)  Yep, that one little issue is the single biggest cause of break ups in America’s Young Adults today.  Men just don’t listen.

They’ll completely ignore half of what’s said, one fourth of what’s said they only catch half of it, and the other fourth, men tend to be on the So So page.

What’s the So So page?  Men listen up, because you’ll need this piece of advice.  The So So page is when Men are listening, but don’t say anything or do anything.

For example: when a Woman offers a suggestions and the man just ignores it, merely because a Woman offered it.  That’s the So So page.  Ladies, this issue can easily be fixed……

Get A Bigger Stick!

Absorbing what you learn is a big part of life.  We can’t live with out learning, otherwise, we’d be a broken sponge.  That’s right, learning is a lot like a Sponge, first you have to absorb it, in order to use it.

But, don’t absorb too much, otherwise all that information will overflow and be lost, or simply put, useless.  It’s just like anything else you do, from time to time you need a break.

Applying what you learn is by far the most crucial part of any relationship.  If you do something wrong and you continue to do it, time and time again, of course she’s going to get pissed of or even leave your lazy butt.  Because either A) you’re not learning anything or B) you’re not applying what you learn.

See, absorption and Application work hand in hand.  If you’re out their and your Truck breaks down?  What do you do?  You learn what you need in order to fix the problem and go about fixing it.

Guys listen to this, because I’m only going to say it once.  Women, are a lot like Trucks, they need regular maintenance and lots of TLC.  Otherwise, you may as well hang up the hat and boot yourself out the door.

Relationships don’t have to be hard, nowadays, young adults tend to over complicate things.  Go simple, or go home.

Boycott These Supporters of SOPA

SOPA – Stop Online Piracy act is a big mistake if it manages to go through the House representatives.  It will give the current entertainment industries enough control over the internet, they’ll be able to shut down any site they want.

This is a bad thing for all internet users.  This could very well mean the demise of a lot of small websites.  Could even me a lot more hassle and headaches coming from Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and a whole slue of other big sites.

If SOPA were to pass, the entertainment business would have the power to censor nearly half the websites out there or more.  That’s how many websites have Copyrighted material on the web.

According to statistics, nearly 70% of young people actually have or have had pirated content in their possession.  The web could change drastically if we allowed SOPA to happen.

My call to action?  Boycott any and all services that support the SOPA act.  Here is a list of them.

As of this writing, GoDaddy “Claims” to have withdrawn support of the SOPA act.  Yet, many don’t believe that they have, this is because of a few comments made by GoDaddy representatives.

Go ahead, let’s boycott these companies ans supporters of SOPA and show them we’re not going to let them have control over our web.  China is already making a bad impact on the Web experience with the censorship they’ve put up.  Let the web remain free and open for all to use.

What do you do with your computers spare time?

Many people do what they need to do on their computers and just go about their day.  What if you could put that computer to use actually providing valuable data to the Scientific community?

There are actually several screen savers that will allow you to take part in Scientific data.  There are also programs that you can download and install such as Community World Grid.

This program will allow you to take part in a minute way by allowing your computer to process information for Scientific Research.  These research programs include data on Cancer, Aids, and numerous other diseases as well as some technology advancements.

One Geek actually built his computer with that in mind.  He thought about what he could do for the world.  Sense his computer just sits there when he’s not doing anything, why not put it to use?

This Geek also took and built his computer out of Lego parts.  This is intriguing for a lot of Geeks out there who love Lego.  In fact, one could go as far to say it’s intriguing to a lot more than just the Geek community.
