Looking Up at Jupiter and Venus

Looking up at Jupiter and Venus is never easier at this time of year.  They’re in fact side by side in the western sky.  Many people find Astronomy a fascinating subject and many more find looking up just awe inspiring.

If you’ve ever wondered how to do the math on an object in space according to it’s brightness, you’ll want to check out the article below.  Here is an excerpt from that article.

“If you’ve been outside just after sunset and faced west, you’ve almost certainly seen two bright “stars” glaring back at you. Those aren’t stars: they’re Venus and Jupiter, the 3rd and 4th brightest natural objects in the sky (after the Sun and Moon, of course, and I say “natural” because the space station can in fact look brighter than both). As they circle the Sun, every year or so the orbital geometry of the two (and the Earth) sets things up such that they appear very close together in the sky. This is called a conjunction, and when it involves planets this bright, it’s really something to see!”

Has Yahoo Gone Too Far Suing Facebook?

Yahoo is suing Facebook, but have they gone too far?  In my personal opinion, yes.  When it comes to the world wide web, how can one company patent so many patents that should be public domain for the world to use?

Now that Facebook has gotten big and decided to go public with the new Profiles, Yahoo decides to join the excitement and sue them.  Why is this a big deal?  According to Facebook,  “We’re disappointed that Yahoo, a longtime business partner of Facebook and a company that has substantially benefited from its association with Facebook, has decided to resort to litigation.”

Yahoo has been pulling the plug on it’s services one by one lately in an attempt to stay afloat.  Little do they realize, this is hurting them in the long run.  Because certain users of Yahoo only use certain features.  If Yahoo pulled Flickr today, I’d probably stop using them.  Although I’m still debating on not using Flickr anyway because of Yahoo’s actions.  This is childish.  Here is an excerpt from an article that I read….

“Yahoo has kicked off the biggest patent battle in social networking history by suing Facebook over 10 patents. Facebook pledged to defend itself forcefully amid speculation Yahoo is trying new ways to raise funds as its ship is sinking.

The Yahoo Inc. lawsuit filed Monday covers advertising, privacy controls and social networking. The move comes after the former web giant threatened to sue Facebook last month, saying it would seek licensing fees from the social network over the use of its patents.Yahoo also said other companies have already agreed to such licensing deals.

It is reported that only two of the 10 patents at issue are directly related to social networking technology. For example, one patent cited by Yahoo covers a method for people to communicate through a virtual entity, “enabling users to easily share their experiences,” according to patent filings. The rest concern online advertising, including methods for preventing “click fraud,” as well as privacy and technology for customizing the information users see on a Web page.”

Wacky Math of Social Media

What’s with the wacky math of Social Media nowadays?  What do I mean by wacky?  Well, according to Social Media sites, 1+1=30,000.  Basically, what it boils down to is one person makes a post, then shares it, then another person shares it, then two more, until it balloons.  Here’s an excerpt from a great article on this…

“Social media is a funny thing. The math within social media marketing works as if it is out in the cosmos, where time and space are bent. What am I talking about? Well, some of the normal math found in business, either it just isn’t applicable in social media or the normal way we think about calculating it offline is very different to how it actually works within the social graph.

Years ago we heard that if you had an unhappy customer they would tell 10 people and how damaging that would be to your company. They said if you created a happy customer, they would at least tell 1 to 2 people. Boy have those days disappeared!”

So, what’s the Formula For Success?  Well, if you’re like most people and believe in Reverse Engineering, you shouldn’t be surprised to know that it’s involved in the process.  When we program ourselves to think a certain way, we have to reverse engineer that process in order to start thinking the right way.  Randy Gage says it best on his  blog.  Here is an excerpt from the article…

“Over the last few posts we’ve looked at the role of vision, beliefs and programming to your achievements, prosperity and success.  Now let’s wrap it all together is a simple formula for manifesting your dream life.

Notice I didn’t say easy. But it is simple. And it doesn’t have to be hard unless you want it to be.

iPad 3 May Be Coming In March

If you thought that the release of the iPad 2 was something else, you’ll be surprised that the rumor of a new iPad 3 is due in March.  That’s right, rumor has it, that it will be the first week of march.  Better be saving up for it though.  Here is an excerpt from the article…

“Yesterday, news about a new iPad 3 leaked out from a couple of Chinese web sites.  What I have gathered is that improvements are being made for screenresolutions and camera. There was also a buzz about selling your iPad 2 if you want to get the best price before the release of the iPad 3. I am not sure how many people who own the iPad 2 are willing to sell it and fork out another $699 (estimated price) for the next generation iPad 3. There’s speculation that the release of the new iPad 3 will be around the first week of March.”
